"La Gioconda"
The Prologoue and "Vesti La Guibba"

After a brief orchestral prelude the clown Tonto appears and announces that he is the "Prologue" to the opera, which was inspired by events very true to life. He concludes by demanding "Andiam!, Incominciate" (Come then, let the play begin). The curtain parts to reveal Canio the leader of the strolling players. He sings the famous and powerful aria "Vesti La Buibba" (On with your costume, whiten your face) in which he laments the fickleness of his wife Nedda.
