The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet has an exotic setting, the island of Ceylon in the time of antiquity. The score of the opera is filled with rich melodies, but the great favorite for audiences from the time of its premier is the duet in Act One between the baritone and tenor. The one man, Zurga is king of the pearl fishers. His life long friend is Nadir. They have just ended a lengthy dispute and in this magnificent duet vow that they will allow nothing to ever threaten their friendship again.
