"TURANDOT"
Act III "Nessun dorma"

TURANDOT was Giacomo Puccini's final opera, left incomplete by the composers' untimely death in 1924. Puccini's friend and former student, Franco Alfano, completed the opera from outlines left by Puccini. It is generally considered the composers' finest work. As the final scene begins, the haughty Princess Turandot has decreed that no one shall sleep until the name of the unknown Prince is discovered, thereby releasing her from a pledge of marriage. The unknown prince observes the search as he sings the haunting aria "Nessun dorma" - "None Shall Sleep".
